Kennesaw, Ga. - The Georgetown University softball team (0-2) was shut-out by host Kennesaw State University, 4-0 on Friday afternoon, dropping their second game of the day.
Freshman Melissa Conners (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) took the loss in her collegiate debut, allowing four runs, three earned, on six hits, through 4.1 innings. Sophomore Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) pitched a scoreless 2.2 innings to finish the game for the Hoyas.
The Owls broke a scoreless tie in the top of the fourth inning, as Jacki Warren led off with a triple and scored on Kelsey Kulk's single. Kulk would drive in another run in the top of the fifth inning and the Kennesaw State added two more to take a, 4-0 lead.
GU was unable to answer back, as Brittany Matthews allowed just two hits, while striking out 18 to earn the victory for the Owls.
Sophomore Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) and junior Katie Zoch (Hackensack, N.J./Hackensack) managed the Hoyas two hits.
