WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University football team will begin its spring workouts in preparation for the 2008 Patriot League season on Wednesday, March 12 at the Multi-Sport Field on the Hilltop. The Hoyas practice will kick off at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Wednesday. The Hoyas have scheduled 15 days of practice concluding on Saturday, April 12 at 3 p.m.
In his second season at the helm of the Georgetown program, head coach Kevin Kelly and the Hoyas finished with a 1-11 overall record and a 1-5 mark in the Patriot League. One of the youngest teams in the league, the Blue and Gray will return more than 60 letterwinners and 13 starters from last year?fs squad.
Among the returnees will be sophomore running back and leading-rusher Charlie Houghton (Toronto, Ontario, Canada/Phillips (Mass.) Academy), who averaged 4.2 yards per carry in 2007. Houghton ran for 481 yards in 10 games, the fifth best total in the Patriot League. He added 294 receiving yards on 34 catches, leading the Hoyas in all-purpose yardage with an average of 91.7 yards per game.
Sophomore defensive back Chris Rau (Avon Lake, Ohio/Avon Lake), finished tied for seventh in the Patriot League in total tackles with 76. Freshman linebacker Nick Parrish (Irving Texas/Jesuit College Prep), and sophomore defensive back Travis Mack (West Chester, Pa./The Hill School) also finished among Patriot League leaders in tackles.
