Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University senior center Roy Hibbert (Adelphi, Md./Georgetown Prep) was named to the 2007-08 All-BIG EAST First Team, the league announced this morning. Hibbert has now been named a first-team selection for the past two seasons and becomes the first Hoya to do so since Mike Sweetney in 2001-02 and 02-03. Senior guard Jonathan Wallace (Harvest, Ala./Sparkman) and freshman guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) were also honored by the conference.
Hibbert was a unanimous selection as this season he helped lead Georgetown to the BIG EAST regular-season crown. The Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalist led the Hoyas in scoring (13.6 ppg), rebounding (6.4 rpg) and blocked shots (2.4 bpg), while shooting 60 percent from the floor. Hibbert's productivity was actually better in BIG EAST play as he had three games with 20+ points, which include a 72-69 win over Connecticut and a 84-65 win over Notre Dame. In that Connecticut game, Hibbert connected on a three-pointer from the top of the key to win the contest.
Wallace was selected to the second team after averaging 10.4 points, 2.6 assists and 1.8 rebounds per game. This season, Wallace became the 39th player in program history to score at least 1,000 points and also passed Kevin Braswell to become the Hoyas' all-time three-point field goal leader. Accepted into Georgetown University's School of Law, Wallace was a honorable-mention selection in 2006-07.
Freeman was chosen to the BIG EAST All-Rookie Team after contributing 9.0 points and 3.2 rebounds per game, while shooting 50.3% from the floor. The freshman has scored in double figures during 12 games this season and scored a career-high 21 points in a non-conference win against Radford.
The Hoyas enter The BIG EAST Championship as the tournament's top seed with a 25-4 overall record and a 15-3 league mark.
