Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team allowed eight runs in the first inning en route to a 17-4 loss at Rollins College on Thursday night.
Jimmy Saris (Great Falls, Va./Langley) took the loss for the Blue and Gray and freshman Pablo Vinent (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) threw the final six innings in relief. Rollins pitcher Mario Lombardo improved to 5-0 on the year as he struck out 11 Hoyas in 6 2/3 innings.
Sean Baumann (Tampa, Fla./Freedom) was a bright spot offensively with three hits and two runs scored. The junior came around on a RBI groundout by sophomore Chip Malt (Boston, Mass./Buckingham Browne & Nichols) in the sixth and a RBI single from junior Rob Begin (Princeton, N.J./Princeton) in the eighth.
Georgetown's two other runs came on a RBI groundout by freshman Sean Lamont (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) in the first inning and a Jack Bender (Cranford, N.J./Cranford) RBI single in the ninth. Sophomore Tommy Lee (Mahopac, N.Y./Mahopac) and junior Greg Pustizzi (Medford, N.J./Bishop Eustace Prep) would score on those plays, respectively.
Georgetown will play tomorrow, Friday, March 7 at noon against Holy Cross.
