Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team dropped an 11-4 decision on Wednesday afternoon at George Washington. The loss snapped a three-game winning streak for the Hoyas heading into a weekend conference series with Villanova.
After falling behind 2-0, the Hoyas tied it in the third. Junior Kelly Muir and sophomore Dan Capeless walked before a fielding error by the GW shortstop loaded the bases. Junior Sean Baumann would then single through the left side to knot the score at 2-2.
The Hoyas grabbed the lead in the fifth when freshman Sean Lamont walked and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Senior Matt Harrigan would then single through the left side before junior Greg Puztissi laid down a perfect sacrifice bunt to score the run and give the Blue and Gray an advantage in the contest, 3-2.
After the Colonials grabbed the lead back in the bottom of the fifth with two runs of their own, the Hoyas would tie it again in the sixth. Capeless walked to lead-off the inning and freshman Erick Fernandez followed with a double down the leftfield line. After Lamont walked and Baumann struck out looking, Harrigan lifted a sacrifice fly to right that plated Capeless with the tying run.
Sophomore Alex Meyer started and threw 4 1/3 innings, allowing four runs and striking out six batters. Senior Grady McConnell took the loss after allowing a run in 1 1/3 innings, while freshman Dan Godefoi and sophomore Jack Bender gave up the remainder of the GW runs.
