Jeff Green Named to NBA All-Rookie First Team

May 23, 2008

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Former Georgetown University men's basketball All-American and current Seattle Supersonics forward Jeff Green was named to the NBA All-Rookie first team when the team was announced by the league offices in New York. With the announcement, Green becomes the second Hoya to earn NBA All-Rookie first team honors, joining Allen Iverson, who earned the distinction following the 1996-97 season.

Green received 43 votes, and was selected to an All-Rookie squad that includes teammate Kevin Durant, Atlanta forward Al Horford, Houston forward Luis Scola and Los Angeles Clippers forward Al Thornton on the first team.

The fifth overall selection in the 2007 NBA Draft, Green averaged 10.5 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.5 assists, while averaging 28.1 minutes in 80 games. Green played his best basketball late in the season, averaging 15.9 points and 6.9 rebounds per game in April, highlighted by a career-high 35-point, 10-rebound performance against the Denver Nuggets on April 6. Green scored in double figures in 16 of the Sonics' last 24 games.

Green spent three seasons on the Hilltop, leading the Hoyas in scoring in 2005-06 (11.9) and 2006-07 (14.3). Green led the team to the NCAA Final Four in 2007. Green will be attending summer school after finishing his rookie season, taking classes toward a degree in English.
