Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III
On Georgetown's intensity...
"It started from the beginning of the game. We got some shots that we normally make, layups, as well as jump shots. We got shots that normally go in the basket and didn't and I think we got frustrated after that instead of just fighting through that and realize sooner or later things are going to go in."
"We went through a stretch that we continued to get the looks that we wanted and the ball just didn't go in the basket. Then with each possession...we just got a little too excited at the other end and allowed them to get too many easy looks."
"I think it's how we responded to not making shots. Our poor defensive effort was a function of us getting frustrated about the ball not going in."
On West Virginia's defensive pressure in the post....
"They did the same thing with Roy (Hibbert) last year. That's just the way they play, they play everything hard. They play the post hard...we went through stretches where the ball just didn't go in and we got frustrated and it snowballed after that."
On BIG EAST play...
"Every game you have to come and play. Every game you have to be focused, every game you have to execute because we can win every game or lose every game. That's just the nature of it, that's how this conference is built."
Georgetown Player Quotes
Georgetown junior forward DaJuan Summers:
On the loss to West Virginia and the team not making open shots...
"It's very frustrating but like Coach (Thompson) said we gotta be able to still play through that adversity as a team and get offensive rebounds, start making shots, things like that."
"Early on we were missing some shots, but you never can tell how the whole game was going to go. I guess we tried to put the ball into the basket different ways and just tried to create different looks but it didn't get into a rhythm. We missed shots we normally make."
Georgetown sophomore Chris Wright:
On this game being a blip on the radar screen and not a normal game...
"It's surprising we lost the game. We just got to move on to the next game. I understand it wasn't a great game for us offensively or defensively. They made shots, they made plays; we didn't."
Georgetown freshman Greg Monroe:
On playing against a drive and kick team like West Virginia...
"I don't think it was anything that I haven't seen before. "(They're) just trying to front me real hard, (they) just tried to make my teammates have bad angles to pass the ball."
West Virginia Head Coach Bob Huggins:
On being underrated...
It's not a ploy. If you look around this league, this league is so hard that if you want to make it to the NCAA Tournament and make another run you have to win games to do that.
On his expectations of the Mountaineers' drive and kick game...
We've worked on it. We work on it because that's the way they play. Because we don't have a post guy we live and die with jump shots, so you hope for it and hope you can get the best shots you can.
On West Virginia's defense...
If we could have scored the ball we would have won those other games. Our defense has been solid for us.
On whether this was West Virginia's best game of the year...
We had more bounce to our step tonight than what we've had, but we play like this every day. They are really great kids, they really are. We go at it hard every day.
On defending Greg Monroe...
All we did was try to limit his touches. They run so many things through him and he's got such a great understanding of what John [Thompson III] wants him to do, so we just tried to limit his touches.
