PRINCETON, N.J. - The Georgetown University men's crew competed Sunday at the Princeton Chase. The Heavyweight Men represented Georgetown well with 11 entries in 4 different events.
In the heavyweight varsity eight category, the A Boat crew of Coxswain Victoria Stuglis, Stroke Andrew Federer, Jay Lee, Geoff Lyons, Brian Chismar, Greg Charte, Nick Williams, Tom Skomba, and bow Paul Keith rowed to 22nd place of out of 40 with a time of 14:09.6. The Georgetwon B boat of coxswain Sean Liu, stroke Andy Olsen, Peter Holowesko, Matt Funk, Patrick Opdyke, Matt Matyjek, Peter Grace, Cameron Hoerner, Matt Lavin, finished 31st out of 40 in a time of 14:30.3.
"We got back on track this weekend with some better rowing in our top two eights," Head Coach Tony Johnson said. "We'll row a good amount over the next few weeks, looking for advancements in our technique and feel for the rowing stroke."
The freshman heavyweight eight comprised of coxswain Kerri McKie, stroke Mike Blommer, Sam Viola, Henry Hoffstot, Charles Depenthany-O'Kelly, Mike Hennessy, Kyle Textor, Tim Broughton, and bow Matt Stewart built upon a steady first half of their race and surged through the finish. This enabled them to record a 6th place finish out of 17 boats in a time of 14:31.4, the highest finish of the day for any Georgetown boat.
"The freshman men had a strong row today," freshman coach Mike Guerrieri said. "We will look to continue to improve over the following weeks in preparation for our last two head races this fall."
