Georgetown Fall Ball Tournament Information
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad welcomed eight freshmen to campus this past August. The recruiting class includes a number of All-America honorees as well as some local talent. The Hoyas will finish out their fall schedule on Saturday as they host a six-team tournament at Multi-Sport Field that includes James Madison, Louisville, Loyola (Md.), Florida and Maryland.
"We are bringing in a smart, athletic group of freshman and we expect them to compete for playing time this season," said Georgetown Head Coach Ricky Fried. "Our freshmen cover all positions and they are true student-athletes who will represent the school and contribute to campus both on and off the field."
On the attack, Dina Jackson is a local product that comes to Georgetown after a decorated high school career at The Bullis School. Jackson was a two-time US Lacrosse All-American and was a member of the 2009 All-Tewaaraton squad. The Potomac, Md., native was the Washington Post All-Montgomery County Player of the Year as a senior and a three-time team MVP. Jackson played club with Capitol Lacrosse Blue and was also the MVP of her high school's tennis team as well as a member of the National Honor Society.
Evan O'Neill will also joining the attacking corps from Ho-Ho-Kus, N.J., where she was a four-year letterwinner and school record holder at Northern Highlands Regional High School. O'Neill was among the top 10 rising seniors by Lacrosse Magazine and listed in the top 25 before her junior season. She also played with Metro Lacrosse and earned two varsity letters in track & field.
Kelsi Bozel is one of three midfielders that the Hoyas will be adding to the already talented group. Bozel comes to the Hilltop as a two-time All-America honoree from U.S. Lacrosse and as a senior by Under Armour. The product of Notre Dame Prep was First Team All-Baltimore County by the Baltimore Sun and was the Towson Times' Player of the Year in 2009. She played club lacrosse with TLC and was a three-sport athlete in high school as well as a member of the National Honor Society.
Rosie Corcoran was a four-year letterwinner at Sacred Heart Academy and a two-time MVP. Her high school squad won its league championship in 2007 and she played club with Liberty Lacrosse. The Point Lookout, N.Y., native was a four-sport athlete and a member of the National Honor Society.
Sophia Thomas rounds out the midfielders coming to Georgetown as a First Team All-American honoree at Maryvale Prep. Thomas was a Baltimore Sun All-Metro selection in 2009 and was also tabbed All-Baltimore County for three-consecutive seasons. The Lutherville, Md., native was a two-time high school MVP and played club with newcomer Bozel for TLC. She was also her class representative for four years and an all-conference soccer player.
Lauren Gray will join a defense that lost three starters to graduation. Gray was a two-time All-American at Bishop Ireton High School as well as an all-state honoree for two-consecutive seasons. The Alexandria, Va., native was All-WCAC all four years of high school and won Bishop Ireton's Female Athlete of the Year award as a senior. Gray played club with fellow newcomer Dina Jackson on Capitol Lacrosse Blue and was also an all-conference swimmer as well as a member of the National Honor Society.
Ashley Hunter is another local product who hopes to make an impact on defense. Hunter was both an Under Armour and U.S. Lacrosse All-American as a senior at St. Stephen's & St. Agnes as well as a member of the 2009 All-Tewaaraton squad. The Fort Washington, Md., native was an All-ISL, all-state and Washington Post All-Metro selection as a senior. She was also an all-state field hockey player and won her school's outstanding female athlete award. Hunter played club with both Gray and Jackson on Capitol Lacrosse and was a member of the Dean's List.
Abby Bisbee rounds out the Class of 2013 coming in as a goalkeeper for the Hoyas. Bisbee was a three-year letterwinner at the Bryn Mawr School in both lacrosse and field hockey. The Baltimore, Md., native earned Second Team All-Baltimore City by the Baltimore Messenger both her junior and senior seasons and she also participated in an international match against Japan. Bisbee played club with TLC along with Thomas and Bozel and was an All-America goalkeeper in field hockey. She was a member of the honor roll and sings with the Peabody Chamber Singers.
Georgetown was 13-6 last season winning the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship with a record of 6-1 in conference play. The Hoyas appeared in the BIG EAST Tournament Championship Game and received an at-large berth into the NCAA Tournament. The Blue & Gray returns its top four scorers in 2010 but lost five seniors to graduation.
The Hoyas will finish up their fall season this Saturday as they host a six-team tournament at Multi-Sport Field. Games will begin at 8:30 a.m., more information on the tournament can be found here.
