WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University field hockey team (1-11, 1-2 BIG EAST) could not hold back the offense of No. 6 Syracuse, as the Orange outshot the Hoyas 52-3 on its way to a 10-0 victory on Friday afternoon at J.S. Coyne Field at Syracuse.
All three of the Hoyas shots came in the second half, as Syracuse peppered freshmen goalkeepers Clodagh Coghlan and Briana Pereira, scoring five goals against each. Pereira and Coghlan made nine and six saves respectively.
Maggie Befort put the Orange on the board six-minutes and 20-seconds into the first half on a rebound off a penalty corner. Lindsey Conrad, who would score three and add two assists on the game, scored her first less than two minutes later. In all Syracuse would score five first half goals, holding the Hoyas shot-less before halftime.
Shannon Connolly opened the scoring for the Orange less than three minutes into the second half, before the Hoyas were able to hold Syracuse scoreless over the next 23 minutes. SU would score four more goals in the last 10 minutes to win 10-0.
Freshmen Annie Wilson and Catherine Shugrue each managed shots on goal, both late in the match.
The Hoyas stay in Syracuse to take on Dartmouth at noon on Saturday, October 10.
