Post-Game Quotes
Georgetown Head Coach John Thompson III
On adjusting to Lafayette in the second half of the game...
"They make shots. Just in terms of putting the ball in the basket, that is going to be one of the better shooting teams we face this year - across the board. They put five guys on the court that can put the ball in the basket. So we had to guard them. Initially, in the first half, they had six threes at halftime, but it felt like 30 to me. You give a guy an open shot, it's going to go in. Once we stopped giving them open looks, we were able to pull away."
On the play of freshman forward Hollis Thompson...
"That's Hollis [Thompson]. I don't know what the season stats are, but I don't think he's shot well in games yet. Today is who he is. He can really put the ball in the basket. He's also wiry and has a toughness about him. He goes in for rebounds; he competes. He gave us a big boost in the first half ... and he knocked a few down."
On the resourcefulness of junior guard Jason Clark...
"I can give a lot of adjectives to describe Jason [Clark] and resourceful is one of them. He is playing at a very high level right now, and the game just comes to him. The game comes easy; he's extremely unselfish. He's making the shots. Today he did a little bit of everything."
Junior Guard Jason Clark
On playing a physical game and whether or not he's concerned about it...
"No, I think I'll be fine. I take a lot of hits. They beat me up during practice, so I have gotten used to it. I don't have any concerns about wearing down."
On if he patterns himself after former Hoya Allen Iverson...
"I never got a chance to watch him in college, but I did watch him in the NBA. He plays hard the whole game, and that's the same thing I try to do. I try to give my team everything I have."
Sophomore Center Greg Monroe
On whether or not they were surprised by the accurate shooting of Lafayette...
"Coach [John Thompson] was stressing that the whole week: they are a very good shooting team. He was telling us it was everybody, not just a couple players. That definitely showed up today."
On the fact that six players scored in double-digits...
"Like Coach [John Thomson] said, we have a lot of players on the team that can score. It doesn't surprise me that this happened. I practice with this team every day. I know what this team is capable of."
Lafayette Head Coach Fran O'Hanlon
On Greg Monroe...
"Obviously he [Monroe]'s a handful, but they do such a good job spacing you out. It's very hard. We were running...we had some of our big guys on him. We knew he was going to be physical...he made adjustments during the game, but he's obviously a very good basketball player. They wanted to get him more touches...in the first half, I thought we (they?) did a pretty good job protecting the ball...he fits that system really well....he fits any system well.
On the game...
"They can control people offensively...we ran good offense, but we turned over possessions in the second half. I just thought the zone worked for us a bit in the first half, but they know how to make adjustments. We moved to a man-to-man and I just wanted to see if that could help us catch up. But our offense just had a tough time against them."
On Georgetown...
"I don't know how deep they are, but they certainly have a lot of pieces...good guard play...Monroe's terrific, and when they decide to turn it up defensively, they do a very good job, very good on the ball, their defenders. I think their first seven is a very good...they are certainly a very good team. In my mind, they are certainly a top 20 team. It's still so early in the season to decide who's going to take that next step, but any time you have a guy like Monroe, you always have a chance."
On Georgetown...
"They move the basketball, they have great ball reversal, they have a plan and they execute their plan."
