Miami, Fla. - The Georgetown University softball team (0-5) could not keep up with St. John's in its first shot against a BIG EAST opponent, falling to the Red Storm, 7-0 on the final day of the FIU Tournament in Miami, Fla.
Demetria Cipriano and McKinley Cooper had the Hoyas only two hits against SJU.
The Red Storm struck first in the top of the second inning, as Roxy Struble led-off with a single and the SJU proceeded to load the bases. Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) hit Rachel Paragas with a pitch to bring the first run across the plate, a ground out to Connell allowed the other run to score, as the Hoyas escaped down only 2-0 after the second.
St. John's offense would keep rolling in the top of the third inning, as Struble singled with two outs and scored on an error. Kristi Cady followed with a double to drive in SJU's fourth run of the game. The Red Storm put three more runs on the board in the top of the fourth inning to take an insurmountable 7-0 lead.
Jennifer Connell took the loss, allowing seven runs, five earned on nine hits over 7.0 innings. The Hoyas offense managed just two hits.
