Atlanta, Ga. - The Georgetown University softball team (1-8) got solo home runs from Samantha Peters (Suwanee, Ga./Collins Hill) and Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo), but Eastern Kentucky scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to pick up their second come from behind victory against the Hoyas of the day in the consolation game of the Panther Invitational.
Peters hit her second home run of the weekend and Carter exacted some revenge after taking the loss on the mound in the first game going 3-for-3 with her first collegiate home run, but two Georgetown errors proved to be their undoing in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss, allowing three runs, two earned on five hits over 6.0 innings.
GU struck first in the top of the fourth inning, as Carter hit a two-out home run to put the Hoyas on top, 1-0. Peters led off the top of the sixth inning with a solo home run over the left field wall. For Peters it was her second of the weekend, giving the Hoyas a 2-0 advantage.
But in the bottom of the sixth inning the Colonels rallied, Shyenne Hussey drew a one-out walk and Jena Handley singled. Kalyn Fox reached on an error allowing Hussey to cross the plate, cutting the lead in half. Pam Webber reached on another error, allowing two runs to cross the plate, giving EKU a 3-2 lead.
Georgetown was unable to mount a comeback in the top of the seventh inning, giving Eastern Kentucky its second win over the Hoyas on the day.
Georgetown will return to action next weekend in the UNC-Greensboro Tournament. The Hoyas will take on Robert Morris, Rider, Ohio and host UNC-Greensboro over the two day tournament, with their first game against Robert Morris on Feb. 28 at 10 a.m.
