Georgetown to Play at Rutgers on Saturday

Feb. 6, 2009

Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University women's basketball squad (13-9, 3-6 BIG EAST) will face the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights Saturday afternoon at the Rutgers Athletic Center at 2 p.m. The Hoyas are looking to get back on the winning track after facing three nationally-ranked squads in a row in the toughest stretch of the schedule. Rutgers enters the game with a 12-8 overall record and a 4-5 mark in the BIG EAST. Last month, the Scarlet Knights fell out of the national rankings.

Georgetown is currently tied for 10th in the BIG EAST with South Florida, Seton Hall and Syracuse. GU defeated USF and Syracuse already this season. The Hoyas have already faced seven of the ten teams ahead of them in the standings with six conference games to go.

Injuries have recently plagued the Hoyas with their two leading scorers both missing games due to ankle problems. Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) returned after a one-game hiatus to lead GU in scoring against DePaul. Karee Houlette (Houston, Texas/Cypress Springs) missed the game against the Blue Demons and is listed as day-to-day.

Georgetown has played its last two opponents tough and enters the game with a +4.2 rebounding margin and shooting 32.7 percent from three.

Rutgers is also looking to rebound after two-straight losses to Connecticut and South Florida. The Scarlet Knights are led by junior guard Epiphany Prince who is averaging 20.8 ppg and 4.9 rpg. Classmate Brittany Ray has also been playing well averaging 11.1 ppg.

The Hoyas will be facing a successful home squad in the Scarlet Knights. Rutgers' 59-56 loss to USF was the first home loss to a BIG EAST team other than Rutgers since the 2002-03 season.
