Kaestner and Ford Named Tewaaraton Nominees

April 15, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) and Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) have both been selected Tewaaraton Trophy nominees the organization announced Wednesday morning. The juniors are two of Georgetown's leading scorers. The Hoyas are currently 10-3 on the season and a perfect 5-0 in the BIG EAST.

Kaestner was named to the preseason watch list earlier this season after earning First Team All-American honors last year as a sophomore. The midfielder is Georgetown's third leading scorer with 27 goals and 12 assists to her credit. She also has a team-high 30 draw controls and is ranked third on the squad in caused turnovers with 15.

Ford is a midseason addition to the list after posting some big number already this year. The attacker is leading the Hoyas in scoring with 38 goals and 10 assists for 48 points. She also has 12 ground balls to her credit in her position up front.

The Tewaaraton Trophy is lacrosse's highest individual honor awarded to the player of the year after the season. Georgetown has had four Tewaaraton Trophy finalists and one winner in Erin Elbe in 2002. The original watch list was made up of 45 individuals the nominees were then narrowed down to 25. Four players from the BIG EAST were selected as nominees with only Georgetown having multiple honorees from the conference.

The Hoyas will face Loyola (Md.) this afternoon at 4 p.m., at Diane Geppi-Aikens Field.
