Georgetown to Host Cincinnati in BIG EAST Finale

April 17, 2009

Washington, D.C. - Georgetown University women's lacrosse will close out conference play with a BIG EAST matchup against the Cincinnati Bearcats on Saturday at Multi-Sport Field. The No. 7/6 Hoyas are currently tied for first in the league standings with a 5-1 mark in the BIG EAST as well as a 10-4 record overall.

Georgetown suffered its first conference loss of the season to No. 14/16 Loyola (Md.) on Wednesday by a score of 13-11. The Hoyas played one of the toughest schedules in the nation this season with nine games against nationally-ranked squads. GU currently has an RPI of seven and has spent the entire season ranked in the top ten in the country.

Georgetown relies on a trio of scorers in attacker Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame prep), midfielder Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) and attacker Jordy Kirr (Baltimore, Md./Bryn Mawr Academy). However, in recent games a number of different players have contributed showing what a balanced attack the Hoyas will enter the postseason with.

Cincinnati has a 5-9 overall record and a 0-6 mark in its first season in the BIG EAST. The squad went 2-14 as an independent last season but has steadily improved. The Bearcats are led by freshman Laura Simanski who has 38 goals and three assists on the season for 41 points.

Saturday marks the first meeting between the two squads in program history.

The opening draw is scheduled for 1 p.m., at Multi-Sport Field. Live stats and a webcast featuring Chuck Timanus will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
