Georgetown Softball Falls to Villanova, 4-3

Philadelphia, Pa. - After winning its last two game's in walk-off fashion the Georgetown University softball team (13-26, 6-11 BIG EAST) fell victim to Meghan Morese's walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning as the Villanova Wildcats (21-20, 5-15 BIG EAST) to sink the Hoyas, 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon at Villanova University

Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) retired the first two batters in the bottom of the seventh inning before an error allowed Jackie Dempsey to reach base, representing the game-winning run. Morese followed with a double, her second of the game, allowing Dempsey to cross the plate sealing the 4-3 lead.

Connell (11-11) took the loss, allowing four runs, two earned on eight hits over 6.2 innings. Cara Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) drove in two runs for Georgetown in a losing effort.

Villanova got started in the bottom of the first inning when Morese doubled to right center field to drive in two runs, giving the Wildcats a quick 2-0 lead.

The Hoyas answered in the top of the third, as Sarah Kamenski (Mountain View, Calif./St. Francis) led off with a single and Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy) walked. Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) followed with a single to drive in Kamenski. Savarese later drew a bases loaded walk allowing Cipriano to cross the plate, tying the score at two runs apiece.

Natalie Hord helped Villanova retake the lead in the bottom of the third inning with an RBI single to drive in Jackie Dempsey, giving the Wildcats a 3-2 lead, which is how it would stay until the top of the seventh inning.

Hanson led off the top of the seventh inning with a double before leaving for pinch-runner Jadig Garcia (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake). Savarese singled up the middle for her second RBI of the day, this time allowing Garcia to score to tie the game at three.

The Wildcats again would break the tie in the bottom half of the inning, as Morese hit her second RBI double of the game to drive in Dempsey for the game-winner.

The Hoyas return to the field on Wednesday when they travel to Harrisonburg, Va. to take on James Madison University at 3 p.m.
