Washington, D.C. - The Georgetown University baseball team was shutout for the second-consecutive game, losing this afternoon at Seton Hall, 6-0. With the loss, the Hoyas fall to 11-28, 4-13 in the BIG EAST, meanwhile, Seton Hall improves to 18-19, 8-9 in the conference.
Will Harris (Winter Park, Fla./Trinity Prep) allowed three in the first, followed that with four scoreless innings and then ran into trouble again, allowing two runs in the sixth before exiting. Pablo Vinent (Miami, Fla./Belen Jesuit) allowed no earned runs in two innings of relief.
Keith Cantwell threw a complete game shutout, scattering seven hits and striking out six batters while walking none for the Pirates. Rightfielder Michael Rogers and third baseman Sean Gusrang each had multiple hits and drove in two runs for Seton Hall.
Georgetown was only able to advance a runner to second on two occasions. In the second, Sean Lamont (Houston, Texas/Bellaire) doubled with one out but did not score. The Hoyas' best chance came in the sixth inning.
With one out, Tom Elliott (Blue Bell, Pa./St. Joseph's Prep) singled up the middle and then stole second base. Erick Fernandez (Hialeah, Fla./Hialeah) was hit by a pitch and with two outs, Lamont collected his second hit with an infield single back to the mound. With the bases loaded and two retired, a pop-out ended the threat for the Blue & Gray.
The Hoyas and Pirates close their three-game set tomorrow at noon.
