Georgetown's Jake Samperton Selected to Play in North-South Team

May 20, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown men's lacrosse player Jake Samperton (Bethesda, Md./Landon) was one of 66 players nationwide selected to play in the 68th United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association North/South Games. The games will be played at Harvard Stadium on Friday, May 22 as part of a tripleheader.

The Division III game will kick things off at 2 p.m., followed by the Division I/II game at 4 p.m. The evening will conclude with a Major League Lacrosse game between the Denver Outlaws and the Boston Cannons at 7:30 p.m.

Samperton was the lone Hoya player selected to play on the Division I-II South team, which will be led by Rutgers Head Coach Jim Stagnitta. One of Georgetown's co-captains in 2009, Samperton is one of seven ECAC League players on the South team. Including seven players on the North squad, there are 14 representatives from the ECAC.

A four-year letterwinner for the Hoyas, Samperton finished the season fourth on the team in scoring with 11 goals and four assists for 15 points.

Down the stretch, as Georgetown won four of its last six games, the play of the 6-0 attackman was pivotal. Samperton started his collegiate career on attack, but moved to midfield as a junior. He moved back to attack during the course of the 2009 season as the Hoyas battle injuries. During the last four games of the season, he scored 10 goals and had three assists for 13 points.

He tallied two goals and one assist for three points in an 11-8 win over then league-leading Fairfield on April 4 and then scored three goals in a 13-10 upset win over then-No. 12 UMass on April 18. Samperton had two goals and two assists against Rutgers on April 25 and then scored three goals in a loss to Penn State, closing out the regular season.

In 53 career games, Samperton scored 30 goals and had 16 assists for 46 career points.
