Georgetown's Scott Kocis Selected to All-ECAC Lacrosse Team

May 6, 2009

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Georgetown University junior men's lacrosse player Scott Kocis (Huntington, N.Y./Huntington) was selected to the All-ECAC First Team and three other members of the Hoyas were selected to the second team, announced on Tuesday afternoon.

Georgetown finished the 2009 season with a 7-7 overall record and a 3-4 mark in the ECAC. This was the final year for the Hoyas in the ECAC as the program will join the newly-formed BIG EAST Men's Lacrosse Conference in 2009-10 season.

Kocis was one of three midfielders selected to the All-ECAC First Team. The junior, who missed nearly all of last season with an injury, came back in 2009 and finished tied for second on the team in scoring with 29 points. He was third on the team with 21 goals scored and second on the team with eight assists.

During the latter part of the season, Kocis shined for the Hoyas, tallying eight goals and three assists in the final three games. He was named the ECAC Offensive Player of the Week on April 20 after scoring three goals and one assist in Georgetown's 13-10 win over then No. 12-ranked UMass. He scored three goals in a 15-7 win over Rutgers on April 25 and was named to the league's Honor Roll the following week.

Kocis, who was selected as a preseason nominee for the Tewaaraton Trophy recognizing the top player in Division I, has scored 28 goals and has nine assists for 37 points in 31 career games.

Three Georgetown players - senior Stevie Bauer (Red Bank, N.J./Peddie School), junior Barney Ehrmann (Baltimore, Md./McDonogh) and junior Craig Dowd (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) - were named to the All-ECAC Second Team.

Bauer, a defenseman, was one of the leaders on a Georgetown unit that held all but two opponents to 10 goals or fewer this season. The senior finished second on the team with 44 ground balls and caused 34 turnovers, among the top five in the country in that category.

Ehrmann earns All-ECAC honors for the second time in his career, as he was named to the first team in 2008. The 6-6, 220-pound defenseman led the team with 61 ground balls and was ranked 30th in the country in that category, averaging 4.36 per game.

Dowd led the Hoyas in scoring with 32 points, scoring 10 goals and handing out 22 assists. He led the team in assists and it was the second-straight year he recorded at least 20. Dowd's 1.57 per-game assist average ranked second in the ECAC and was No. 17 nationally. In 41 career games, he has scored 41 goals and has 53 assists for 94 points. Dowd's 53 assists are 11th all-time at Georgetown, while his 94 career points rank 20th all-time.

Since the start of the ECAC Lacrosse League in 2000, 33 Georgetown players have earned 54 league honors, including 24 who have earned 37 first team selections.
