WASHINGTON, D.C. - Three members of the Georgetown University men's golf team were selected to the Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar team, announced by the Golf Coaches Association of America.
To be eligible for Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar status, an individual must be a junior or senior academically, compete in at least two full years at the collegiate level, participate in 70-percent of his team's competitive rounds or compete in the NCAA Championships, have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II and NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, and maintain a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 3.2 in Division I, II and III and 3.5 in NAIA. A recipient must also be of high moral character and be in good standing at his college or university.
A total of 108 Division I players were honored, with golfers from 83 different schools represented on the Division I list. Georgetown was among only four schools in the country with three golfers on the list, joined by fellow BIG EAST Conference member Seton Hall, as well as New Mexico and South Carolina.
The Georgetown golfers were recent graduates Tim Hager (Ivyland, Pa./Council Rock North) and Garrett Logan (Henderson, Nev./Bishop Gorman) as well as rising senior Vincenzo Salina (Vandoeuvres, Switzerland/Institut Florimont). It was the second-straight year that Hager and Logan had been honored by the GCAA as All-America Scholars.
Hager capped off a brilliant career at Georgetown by earning All-BIG EAST honors at the conference championship with a 17th place finish. During the 2008-09 season, Hager posted five top-30 finishes and led the team with a 75.45 stroke average. Hager graduated from Georgetown in May, cum laude, with a 3.599 grade-point average. He earned his bachelor's degree in finance and management, with a concentration in new and small business.
Logan finished second on the team in stroke average during the 2008-09 season, carrying a 75.55 average in 24 rounds. He posted three top-30 finishes during the season, including a season-best tie for ninth place at the Georgetown Intercollegiate, shooting an 8-over par 150. Logan was among the team's top players during his two years on campus following his transfer from Santa Clara University. He finished third on the team in stroke average as a junior (75.91) and posted three top-30 finishes. Logan earned his bachelor's degree in government, carrying a 3.39 GPA.
Salina had a solid season for the Hoyas, finishing third on the team with a 75.62 stroke average and posting a team-best four top-20 finishes and five in the top-30. He tied for eighth place at the John Dallio Memorial with an even-par 216 in the fall, tied for 16th place at the Georgetown Intercollegiate at 9-over par 151, tied for 12th place at the First Market Bank Intercollegiate (4-over par 146) and tied for 28th place at the BIG EAST Championship, carding a 7-over par 223. Salina has a cumulative 3.37 GPA in accounting and is interning with KPMG in Washington, D.C. this summer.
