WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University field hockey team has announced the Class of 2013, consisting of 11 student-athletes who will begin competition for the Hoyas for the 2009-10 academic year. The class is Tiffany Marsh's second since being named head coach prior to the 2007 season.
The 11 freshman will begin training on campus on Wednesday, with the team opening their 2009 season on Friday, August 28 at noon against Longwood University.
Clodagh Coghlan - Goalkeeper - Pennington, N.J./Stuart Country Day Coghlan, a four-year letterwinner in field hockey earned All-State and All-Prep honors in 2007 and 2008...She was named first team all-state by the Central Jersey Field Hockey Coaches Association during her senior year and made the second team during her junior year...Recorded 39 shutouts in 46 games, while breaking the school-record for saves in a season during 2007 and re-breaking the record in 2008.
Danielle Filipponi - Forward/Midfield - Oak Hill, Va./Oakton Filipponi, a two-year letterwinner in field hockey, was selected team captain in 2008...Selected second team all district in 2008...Selected first team all district in 2007 helping lead Oakton to the Va. AAA State tournament for the first time in school history...A member of the National Honor Society.
Kimberly Keating - Midfield - Bryn Mawr, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy Keating, a three-year letterwinner in field hockey and four-year letterwinner in lacrosse is a two-time all-state selection, earning first team all-state honors in 2008...A five time All-Main Line selection earning three selections in field hockey and two in lacrosse...Helped guide Merion Mercy Academy to the finals of the Pennsylvania State Field Hockey Tournament and were named The Philadelphia Inquirer's Team of the Year in 2008.
Caitlin Hickey - Midfield/Forward - Milton, Mass./Milton Academy Hickey earned 10 varsity letters, competing four years in both field hockey and softball and two in ice hockey...Was selected team captain of field hockey and softball in 2008...Selected All-Independent School League (ISL) in 2008 and All-ISL honorable mention in 2007...
Claire Mittermiller - La Jolla, Calif./La Jolla Mittermiller, an eight-time letterwinner earned four letters in field hockey and two each in soccer and track and field...Selected for the 2008 California National Futures Team...First team All Section DII and first team all California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) San Diego Girls Field Hockey Team in 2008...Three-time All Western League selection...San Diego Field Hockey Officials' Association Outstanding Sportsmanship Award.
Briana Pereira - Goalkeeper - Medford, N.J./Shawnee Pereira, a seven-time letterwinner, including four in field hockey and three in track and field, was named a Regional All-American and two-time Goalie of the Year in 2007 and 2008...Earned first team all-conference and all-county selection...Guided Shawnee High School to a 2007 New Jersey State Championship and a No. 7 national ranking...Recorded 46 shutouts during her career.
Sophia Pifer - Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh Pifer, an eight-time letterwinner, competed four years in both field hockey and lacrosse...Selected second team Pennsylvania All-State AA and first team Colonial League in 2008...Helped Southern Lehigh earn Colonial League championships from 2006-08...Helped her team to a District 11 Championship in 2008...Was a member of the Futures Elite 5A for four years...Helped earn a Futures National Championship in 2007.
Catherine Shugrue - Forward - Devon, Pa./Episcopal Academy Shugrue, a three-year letterwinner in field hockey and two-year letterwinner in track, helped lead Episcopal to an Inter-Academic League Championship in 2008...Selected All Mainline first team and All-Southeastern Pennsylvania honorable mention...League champion in the 100m and 300m hurdles, helping set a school record in the 4x400 relay.
Laura Thistle - Midfield - Glenside, Pa./Mount Saint Joseph Academy Thistle, a three-year letterwinner in field hockey and four-year letterwinner in track and field, was captain of the track team during her senior season...Earned Pennsylvania All-State honorable mention in field hockey for the 2008 season...Helped Mount Saint Joseph's qualify for the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Assocation Tournament, earning district titles in 2006 and 2007.
Annie Wilson - Forward - Darien Conn./Darien Wilson, a three-year letterwinner in field hockey and four-year letterwinner in tennis, earned first team all-state and all-conference honors in field hockey in 2008...Was named the most valuable player of the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference championship game in 2008...Named Top 5 Connecticut Players to Watch by the Hartford Courant...Helped guide Darien to back-to-back state, conference and division championships in 2007 and 2008.
Katy Wingo - Midfield - Great Falls, Va./Langley Wingo, a four-year letterwinner in field hockey and two-year letterwinner in lacrosse was selected captain of Langley's field hockey team in 2008...Earned all-district most valuable player and first team in 2008...Helped guide Langley to an undefeated 16-0 regular season and a No. 1 ranking by The Washington Post.
