2009-10 Schedule
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's lacrosse team released its 2010 schedule Tuesday afternoon and once again the Hoyas have some of the toughest competition in the nation on their slate. Georgetown will face eight squads that ended the 2009 season in the national polls and three of the four teams from the NCAA Tournament semifinals. The Hoyas finished last season with a 13-6 overall mark and ranked ninth in the country.
The Blue & Gray will open 2010 hosting local-rival Johns Hopkins at the Multi-Sport Field. The Blue Jays fell out of the national scene last season but have ties to the Georgetown coaching staff which always makes for an intense atmosphere.
Following the home stand, the Hoyas will face their toughest road trip of the year with four games away from the Hilltop and three against top-ranked opponents. Georgetown will travel to Northwestern on March 6 to face the defending national champions before heading to Gainesville, Fla., to take on Florida, one of the newest additions to Division I women's lacrosse.
Georgetown will then battle Duke and Maryland who finished last season ranked fifth and third, respectively, before returning home against North Carolina on March 20. The Tar Heels fell to Northwestern, 21-7, in last season's NCAA Tournament Championship Game.
The Hoyas will open BIG EAST play at Villanova on March 26. The Wildcats are the newest addition to the league. Just two days later, the Blue & Gray will look to avenge last year's NCAA Tournament loss against the Princeton Tigers on Multi-Sport Field to round out the month of March.
April will bring six BIG EAST games as Georgetown hosts Notre Dame, Connecticut, Rutgers and Loyola (Md.). The Hoyas will travel to conference opponents Cincinnati and Louisville as well as Yale in non-conference play. The Blue & Gray will cap off the season on May 1 against perennial-rival Syracuse in the Carrier Dome.
The top four teams in the league will once again advance to the BIG EAST Tournament which will be hosted by Rutgers in Piscataway, N.J.
The Hoyas will play a fall schedule that includes events at Johns Hopkins, George Mason, Virginia and Maryland. The Blue & Gray will host a tournament on October 31 at the Multi-Sport Field featuring James Madison, Florida and Maryland.
