Installment One Sept. 9, 2009
Washington, D.C. - Welcome back! This week brought two big games for our team. This past Wednesday we played James Madison, which was a big game for us. Not only was it important because they are in our region and would be a great win to have when it comes to NCAA selection time, but also because we had set a goal for ourselves of going into the Santa Clara game undefeated.
Beating JMU 4-0 gave us some great momentum going into a huge game on Sunday against No.22 Santa Clara. This is the first time we had ever played a team from California, or even a team from the West Coast. Santa Clara came out here this year, and our team will be returning the favor by going there next year. Unfortunately for Toni, Norah, Jordy, and I, we will not get to make the trip out to beautiful California in our time here at Georgetown.
The Santa Clara game was a really good game. They scored in the first half, but in the second half, shortly after Amy Speck subbed into the game, we tied things up. Amy ran down a ball heading out of bounds, and sent a perfect cross into Jordy, who finished it nicely. We had numerous opportunities before the end of the game, but were unable to complete any of them, as regulation concluded and we headed into overtime.
We ended up losing 2-1 in overtime after Santa Clara's Kiki Bosio did her infamous flip throw that we were unable to clear out of the box. As Dave [Coach Nolan] said after the game, "sometimes you win off the big throw (Sam for us) and sometimes you lose."
Regardless of the loss, our team played well, and now we are looking to the games against GW and Robert Morris. We hope you will continue to come support us at North Kehoe Field or follow us online!
