WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University field hockey team (6-6, 1-1 BIG EAST) fell to the University of Richmond University Spiders (4-7),3-0, at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex Sunday afternoon. The Hoyas allowed two second-half goals to fall back to .500.
Sophomore goalkeeper Briana Pereira (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) posted four saves in the loss. The Hoyas received its only shots from Katie Dempsey (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Country Day School of the Sacred Heart), Catherine Shugrue (Devon, Pa./Episcopal Academy) and Annie Wilson (Darien, Conn./Darien), as they were outshot by the Spiders 18-3.
Richmond struck first at the 25:14 mark in the first half when Katelin Peterson had a tip-in in front of the cage with an assist coming from Hannah Hess. It was the lone goal of the half, as the Hoyas trailed 1-0.
In the second half, Peterson added two assists, first setting up Christin Hanley, who hit the back of the cage at 48:58 on the breakaway. Jessica Hollis capped the scoring on another breakaway set up by Peterson.
Dempsey managed the Hoyas' lone shot the rest of the way, as they were unable to hit the back of the cage against Richmond goalkeeper Anna Zarkoski in the 3-0 loss.
Georgetown will hit the road traveling north as it will take on No. 5 Connecticut on Saturday Oct. 9 at noon and conclude the weekend's action on Sunday Oct. 10 against Fairfield at 2 p.m. The Hoyas will return home on Saturday Oct. 16 at 1 p.m. when they take on No. 8 Syracuse at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex on the campus of American University.
