No. 14/12 Hoyas to Host USF on Wednesday

Feb. 16, 2010

WASHINGTON - The No. 14/12 Hoyas will host the USF Bulls on Wednesday evening at McDonough Arena. The Blue & Gray is tied for third in the BIG EAST standings with five games remaining in conference play.

The game is a part of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association's Pink Zone initiative to raise breast cancer awareness. The initiative runs from February 12th until the 21st, and donations collected at Wednesday evening's game will go to Kay Yow/WBCA Cancer Fund, which is in partnership with The V Foundation.

The Hoyas lost to West Virginia in Morgantown on Sunday 55-46. It was only Georgetown's second conference loss of the season. The Hoyas forced 25 turnovers on 14 steals but only made 23.1 percent of their field goal attempts. Ta'Shauna "Sugar" Rodgers (Suffolk, Va./King's Fork) led the team with 12 points, while Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross) had 11 and Jaleesa Butler (St. Louis, Mo./Alton) 10.

Georgetown is 20-4 on the season and 9-2 in BIG EAST play. The Hoyas have been one of the best defensive squads in the country this season averaging 13.9 steals per game and posting a +8.8 turnover margin. The Blue & Gray is led by Rodgers with 18.0 ppg and junior captain Monica McNutt with 12.0 ppg. Senior Jaleesa Butler has a team-high 6.7 rpg to her credit.

USF is 14-10 overall and 5-6 in the BIG EAST. The Bulls are coming off a 53-38 win at Seton Hall. Jessica Lawson leads the squad averaging 15.0 ppg and 10.8 rpg, while Janae Stokes is second in scoring with 12.1 ppg.

Georgetown is 3-3 all-time against the Bulls and has won the three previous meetings. Earlier in the season, on January 9, the Hoyas defeated the Bulls in Tampa 66-52. Rodgers led the team with 18 points and six rebounds, while McNutt added 10. The Hoyas forced 31 turnovers in that game.

Tipoff is scheduled for 8 p.m. at McDonough Arena. Live stats and a video-only webcast will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
