ELON, N.C. - ELON, N.C. - The Georgetown University softball team (2-2) scored a sixth inning run to tie the game at one run apiece, but Elon got a solo home run in the bottom of the inning to sink the Hoyas, 2-1 in Georgetown's last game of the Elon Phoenix Tournament on Sunday afternoon.
Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) and Erin O'Shea dueled, keeping the opposition's bats quiet until the bottom of the third inning, when Elon's Ashlee Crewe led off with a double and came around to score on Tomeka Watson's single two batters later to give the Phoenix a 1-0 lead.
Georgetown would answer in the top of the sixth inning. Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) drew a one-out walk then moved to second base on a passed ball. Lowe would later come around to score on Elon's throwing error to tie the score at one.
Emerald Graham would lead off the bottom of the sixth inning with a solo home run to put Elon in front, 2-1 the eventual final score after the Hoyas were retired in order in the top of the seventh inning.
Connell (1-1) took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs on eight hits, while striking out four.
Georgetown returns to the field next week when they travel to Chattanooga, Tenn. to play five games at the Frost Classic. The busy weekend begins on Friday at 10 a.m. when they take on Wright State.
