March 12, 2010

Final Stats

FRESNO, Calif. - The Georgetown University softball team (6-8) got a quick start scoring three runs in the top of the first inning, but Cal State Northridge scored four runs in the bottom of the inning, before both offenses went silent. The Matadors held on for the victory in the first game of the Bayer Cropscience Classic at the Bulldog Diamond in Fresno, Calif.

Peters led off the game with a home run over the left field wall, giving the Hoyas a quick 1-0 lead. Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy) and Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) drew back-to-back walks and Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) drove in two with a single to right field to give GU a 3-0 lead.

Cal State Northridge answered quickly in the bottom of the fourth inning, scoring four runs, capped by a two-run single from Tracy Allen, giving the Matadors a 4-3 lead. After an explosive first inning, the pitchers would take over, hanging zeroes on the scoreboard over the next six innings.

Carter took the loss, allowing four runs, three earned on eight hits with four strikeouts over 6.0 innings. Amanda Pitzenberger earned the victory allowing three runs, two earned on five hits over 4.0 innings. Mia Pagano earned the save tossing three scoreless innings of relief for the Matadors.

The Hoyas once again got strong production from the top of their lineup, as Peters went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI, while Hanson went 2-for-3 with a run scored.
