Final Stats
STORRS, Conn. - The Georgetown University softball team (10-16, 2-1 BIG EAST) came back to tie the score with UConn late in the game, but fell 4-3 in 10 innings in the three-game series finale on Sunday afternoon.
For Georgetown, it was the program's first loss to the Huskies, after meeting for the first time in 2009. Mackensey Carter took the loss allowing one run on six hits over 5.0 innings of relief. Jennifer Connell tossed 4.1 innings allowing three runs, two earned on three hits over 4.1 innings, but did not figure in the decision.
Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) continued to swing the bat well, going 3-for-3, her fourth multi-hit game in her last seven. Carter went 2-for-4 with an RBI for the Hoyas
Samantha Peters led off the game with a single, moved to second base on Kelsie Hanson's (Katy, Texas/Katy) sacrifice bunt and scored on Mackensey Carter's (Mission Viejo, Calif/Mission Viejo) single to take a 1-0 lead.
The score remained the same until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Huskies rallied for three runs. Kim Silva led off the inning with a single and would later score on Jennifer Ward's sacrifice bunt. Julianne Towers drove in a run for the Huskies and Brittany Duclos would also drive in one, giving UConn a 3-1 lead.
Georgetown quickly answered in the top of the sixth inning, as Jadig Garcia (Zebulon, N.C./East Wake) scored on a wild pitch and Jillian Webb (Hemet, Calif/Hemet) doubled to score Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) tying the score at three.
The team's played scoreless ball over the next three innings until the Huskies scored a run in the bottom of the tenth inning on Silva's walk-off single, to take a 4-3 win.
Georgetown returns home to Guy Mason Field to take on Towson at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 30.
