Georgetown Travels to Raleigh for Wolfpack Classic

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Georgetown University softball team (4-5) travels to Raleigh, N.C. this weekend to play in the Wolfpack Challenge at the Curtis and Jacqueline Dall Softball Stadium on campus at North Carolina State University. The Hoyas open play on Friday at 4 p.m. against Stony Brook, before meeting Coastal Carolina and NC State on Saturday. They conclude the three-day tournament against Longwood at 10 a.m. on Sunday morning.

Georgetown went 2-3 last weekend at the Frost Classic at University of Tennessee Chattanooga, defeating Wright State and Evansville. Senior RHP Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) earned both of Georgetown's victories improving her record to 3-2. Connell is carrying a 1.69 earned run average through five starts spanning 29.0 innings.

Sr. 3B Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) has led the Hoyas offense, batting .450 (9-for-20) with two doubles and four RBI's through the team's first nine games. Fr. Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) has been strong in her first two weekends of play, batting .636 (7-for-11) in five starts. Jr. OF Kristi Preuss (LaPlata, Md./LaPlata) is batting .292 (7-for-24) with two doubles and three RBI's in nine games.

Vs. Stony Brook (3-2) - The Hoyas and Seawolves will meet for the first time. Alyssa Struzenberg was named the America East Pitcher of the Week after going 2-1 during Stony Brook's first weekend of play. Jerrica Kang earned Freshman of the Week honors, while Bernadette Tenuto paced the offense batting .500 (7-for-14) with seven RBI's.

Vs. Coastal Carolina - The Hoyas and Chanticleers will meet for the first time on Saturday. Coastal Carolina comes off a 1-3 weekend in South Carolina where their lone victory came over Eastern Kentucky. They fell to BIG EAST opponent DePaul, 6-1. The Chanticleers offense has been led by Jazmin Daigle, who is batting .364 (12-for-33) with three home runs and eight RBI's. Ashley Frederick has anchored the pitching staff going 3-4 with a team-leading 2.31 earned run average in eight appearances spanning 42.1 innings.

At NC State (9-7) - GU and the Wolfpack meet for the first time. Stephanie Call leads the team with a .366 batting average (15-for-41) and six home runs. Lindsay Campana leads the pitching staff with a 6-2 record and a 0.65 earned run average in nine appearances (54.0 innings). Georgetown head coach Pat Conlan served as the assistant to NC State head coach Lisa Navas before coming to Georgetown in 2006.

Vs. Longwood (6-6) - The Lancers have controlled the history of this match up since the Hoyas inaugural year, going 6-1. Georgetown earned its first victory over Longwood last season, as Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) went 4-for-4 with a walk-off two-run home run to earn a 6-5 victory. Longwood went 3-3 last weekend playing at home. Brooke Short is leading the offense batting .465 (20-for-43) with 5 home runs and 15 RBI's. Briana Wells is 5-3 with a 3.13 earned run average in 12 appearances spanning 44.2 innings.
