Final Stats
RALEIGH, N.C. - The Georgetown University softball team (5-6) fell victim to two sixth inning runs from Coastal Carolina, as the Hoyas fell to the Chanticleers, 4-3 on Saturday afternoon at the Wolfpack Classic in Raleigh, N.C.
Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) drove in two runs on one of the Hoyas' three hits on the afternoon. Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss, allowing four runs, just two earned, on three hits, while striking out five over 7.0 innings.
The Chants took an early 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning, as Jazmin Daigle came around to score the team's first run on a throwing error. Mecaela Ballard drew a bases loaded walk to drive in the second run before Connell was able to retire the side.
Georgetown answered back in the bottom of the third inning, as Demetria Cipriano (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter) led off the inning with a double to left field. Suria Bahadue (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Edward Pace) singled and Cara Savarese (Syosset, N.Y./Syosset) walked to load the bases. Samantha Peters drove in one run on a ground out to third, before Carter singled through the right side to drive in two, giving GU a 3-2 lead.
Connell would retire the next six batters, before Michelle Evans led off the sixth inning with a home run, tying the score at three runs apiece. Alyssa Tornatore would later drive in a run with double to left field to put Coastal Carolina in front for good.
Katelin Edwards earned the victory for the Chants, allowing three runs on three hits over 7.0 innings.
