RALEIGH, N.C. - The Georgetown University softball team (6-7) fell behind Longwood (9-6) early and could not muster the offense to put pressure on the Lancers, dropping the decision 7-1 on Sunday morning at the Wolfpack Classic.
The Hoyas once again received production from the top of their lineup as Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy) went 2-for-3 with a run and Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) went 2-for-3 with an RBI. The run would be GU's lone score. Carter took the loss, allowing five runs on seven hits over 5.0 innings. Melissa Conners (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) allowed two runs on one hit in 1.0 inning. The Lancers got on the board first, as Nichole Simmons hit a two-run home run in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Ashley Kramer would add to the lead in the bottom of the second inning with a solo home run, extending the lead to three.
Simmons drove in two more runs in the fifth inning with a double to right centerfield to give Longwood a 5-0 lead. The Hoyas answered a half inning later in the top of the sixth when Hanson singled with one out then came around to score on Carter's single up the middle.
