WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's crew finished its first day of competition at the GW Invitational on a windy Friday afternoon on the Potomac River. The Hoyas had three boats complete with 2,000 meter course characterized by a strong tailwind and moderate tailcurrent.
Georgetown's freshman eight, consisting of stroke Henry Hoffstot, Sam Viola, Tim Broughton, Charles de Pentheny-O'Kelly, Mike Hennessy, Ben Holtzmuller, Mike Blommer, Matt Stewart and coxswain Kerri McKie. The Hoyas finished behind Navy and in front of George Washington in a time of 5:42.9.
The Hoyas varsity eight, including stroke Brian Chismar, Andy Olsen, Joe Ledvina, Andrew Federer, Paul Keith, Patrick Opdyke, Sean Greany, bow Peter Holowesko and coxswain John Geager finished behind Navy in a time of 5:40.1.
Georgetown's second varsity eight finished in front of George Washington and behind Navy in a time of 5:47.6. GU's second varsity eight boat included stroke Tom Skomba, Matt Funk, Chris Kozak, Cameron Hoerner, Greg Charte, Kyle Textor, Colin MacDougall, bow Matt Matyjek and coxswain Carly Heitlinger.
The Hoyas will wrap up its weekend at the GW Invitational on Saturday.
