The No. 9-ranked Georgetown University men's lacrosse team meets Notre Dame in a crucial BIG EAST Conference matchup on Sunday, April 11 at the Multi-Sport Field on the Hilltop. Face-off on the Georgetown campus is slated for noon. The game will be shown live on ESPNU, with Anish Shroff and Mark Dixon calling all of the action. A live audio broadcast of the game will also be available on the Georgetown Athletics website - www.guhoyas.com - with Chuck Timanus calling the game.
Georgetown, winners of its last two games and four of its last five overall, enters the game with a 6-3 overall record and a 2-1 mark in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas are ranked No. 9 in the country in the Nike/Inside Lacrosse poll and No. 11 by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
The Hoyas and the Fighting Irish will be meeting for the 11th time in program history on Sunday. Georgetown leads the head-to-head series, 6-4, and has won the last four meetings. This is the first game between the teams since 1999, a 14-10 GU win during the NCAA Tournament.
Georgetown freshman attack Travis Comeau (Alberta, Canada/The Hill Academy) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on April 5 after his performance in a 13-12 overtime win at Navy. Comeau scored four goals in the Navy win, tallying one in the first half and adding three in the second half as the Hoyas opened a 12-9 lead in the fourth quarter before winning in thrilling fashion in sudden-death overtime.
Comeau is second on the team in scoring with 18 points and leads the Hoyas with 17 goals. He ranks 45th in the country in goals per game (2.13) and seventh among all freshmen nationally in goals scored. Comeau is second in the BIG EAST in goals per game.
Comeau's four goals led a big effort by the freshmen class, as four players combined for eight goals and four assists in the win. Freshman Davey Emala (Baltimore, Md./Gilman) scored three goals, freshman Zac Guy (Tully, N.Y./Tully) added a game-high three assists Jason McFadden (Bel Air, Md./Calvert Hall) had one assist and middie Patrick Murray (Denver, Colo./Kent Denver) scored a goal and won 4-of-7 face-off attempts.
Senior Craig Dowd (East Northport, N.Y./Northport) leads the team in scoring with eight goals and 21 assists for 29 points. He leads the BIG EAST in assists per game (2.33) and is second in the league in points per game (3.22). Dowd ranks seventh nationally in assists per game and is 46th in the country in points per game.
Junior Brian Tabb (Chevy Chase, Md./Georgetown Prep), who won 16-of-22 face-off attempts in the Navy win, has won 57.8 percent of his attempts (122-of-221) this season. Tabb is fourth in the BIG EAST in face-off percentage, ranks 16th nationally in that category and leads the BIG EAST with 5.78 ground balls per game. Tabb has collected a team-high 52 ground balls.
Notre Dame enters the game with a 6-4 overall record and an 0-2 mark in the BIG EAST. The Irish have lost their last two games, both conference matchups, first to Rutgers and then to Villanova. ND started the season with a 3-0 record, posting wins over then-No. 2 Duke and then-No. 10 Loyola.
