WASHINGTON - The No. 13 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad will face Yale on Friday, April 23, at 7 p.m. at Reese Stadium in New Haven, Conn.
No. 13 Georgetown is 8-5 on the season and sits at No. 10 in the NCAA's RPI. GU has out-of-conference wins over Johns Hopkins and Florida so far this season, as well as six BIG EAST wins. The Blue & Gray is currently on a five-game winning streak after victories over Notre Dame, Connecticut, Cincinnati, Louisville, and Rutgers.
In its most recent game, Georgetown defeated Rutgers, 19-12, at home to stay undefeated in the BIG EAST. Junior attacker Jacqueline Giles (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) led the squad with four goals, while senior midfielder Ashby Kaestner (Trappe, Md./Saints Peter and Paul) and freshman midfielder Kelsi Bozel (Hunt Valley, Md./Notre Dame Prep) added three goals each. In total, eight players contributed goals and 10 players scored a point. The win secured a BIG EAST Tournament berth for the Hoyas.
On Monday, senior attacker Molly Ford (Reisterstown, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was named to the BIG EAST Honor Roll for the third time this season. Ford contributed two goals and a team-best three assists in the game against Rutgers to earn the honor.
The Georgetown offense is led by Ford, who has tallied 37 goals and 18 assists for 55 points in 13 games. Kaestner is second with 26 goals and 10 assists for 36 points.
Yale is 6-7 overall and 3-3 in the Ivy League. Most recently, Yale defeated Columbia at home 12-4 last Saturday. The Bulldogs are led by Devon Rhodes who has 34 points on the season including a team-best 26 goals. Kaitlyn Flatley is the squad's second-leading scorer with 20 goals, while Jenna Block leads the team with 13 assists this season.
Georgetown is 2-1 all-time against the Bulldogs. Last year, the Hoyas faced them at home on May 2 and won 12-4. The other two match-ups were in the ECAC Tournament in 1995 and 1997. Yale won the first time, 10-7, on May 7, 1995, but Georgetown defeated the Bulldogs, 5-4, on May 5, 1997.
