Georgetown Softball Falls to UMBC, 2-0

BALTIMORE, Md. - The Georgetown University softball team (14-18, 4-2 BIG EAST) fell to UMBC (17-14), 2-0 on Tuesday afternoon, as the Hoyas' offense managed just one hit against the Terriers.

Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo) managed GU's lone hit and took the loss on the mound, allowing two runs, just one earned on six hits over 5.0 innings, while striking out five. Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) tossed a scoreless inning of relief for Georgetown.

The Hoyas and Terriers played scoreless ball through three-and-a-half, until UMBC struck in the bottom of the fourth inning. Lauren Brummell led off with a single and eventually scored on Amanda Page's single to take a 1-0 lead. Amanda Barker would later score on a Georgetown error to extend the lead to two runs.

GU was unable to move a runner into scoring position the rest of the way, as Amanda Fefel completed the one-hit shut out to defeat Georgetown.

Georgetown returns home to Guy Mason Field to begin a three-game series against BIG EAST Conference rival Pittsburgh on Saturday, April 10, beginning at noon.
