WASHINGTON - Senior goalkeeper Caitlin Formby (Towson, Md./Notre Dame Prep) was named the BIG EAST Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. This is her first weekly award after a number of career nods to the weekly honor role. Formby and the Hoyas had a big week going 2-0 to finish conference play undefeated.
Formby led Georgetown past No. 13 Loyola (Md.) 13-12 in double overtime notching seven saves including one key stop in overtime. The goalkeeper also had one caused turnover and one ground ball in the victory. On Saturday, the Blue & Gray downed No. 9 Syracuse 10-9 at the Carrier Dome. Formby had 14 saves in the win as well as one caused turnover and two ground balls.
The wins marked the first time this season that Georgetown has defeated back-to-back nationally-ranked squads. The Hoyas are 11-5 on the year and finished 8-0 in conference play to win the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship and earn the top seed in the conference tournament.
The victories were also continued an eight-game win streak, one shy of the program record.
The Blue & Gray will face fourth-seeded Loyola (Md.) on Thursday in the BIG EAST Semifinals. Rutgers University is hosting this year's event and the game will be televised on CBS College Sports. The opening draw is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Yurcak Field.
