Final Stats
WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University softball team (17-32, 6-15 BIG EAST) was held scoreless, as they dropped the second half of a BIG EAST Conference doubleheader with USF (24-28, 9-12 BIG EAST) on Saturday afternoon at Guy Mason Field.
Jennifer Connell (Roswell, Ga./Roswell) took the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits over 5.0 innings. Melissa Conners (Wellington, Fla./Wellington) came on to pitch two scoreless innings of relief for the Hoyas. Capri Catalano earned the victory for the Bulls, shutting out the Hoyas and limiting them to one hit over 5.0 innings. Kelsie Hanson (Katy, Texas/Katy) and Suria Bahadue (Miami, Fla./Monsignor Edward Pace) had the Hoyas lone hits.
USF scored quickly, as Cat Olnick would single with the bases loaded in the top of the first inning to put the Bulls in front, 1-0. Connell was able to escape any more damage, as Samantha Peters snared a line drive and tug out JoJo Medina at second base for an unassisted double play, ending the threat.
Olnick would strike again in the top of the third inning, hitting a two-run home run over the fence in left center field, to put the Bulls in front 3-0. Alison Savarese hit a two-run home run of her own in the top of the fifth inning to give the Bulls a 5-0 lead, the eventual final score.
The Hoyas will conclude its season on Sunday at 11 a.m. against USF. On Sunday, the Hoyas will celebrate Senior Day, as Suria Bahadue, Demetria Cipriano, Jennifer Connell, Jadig Garcia, Kelsie Hanson and Samantha Peters will all play their final game on the Hilltop.
