WASHINGTON - Five incoming freshmen have been selected to compete in this weekend's Under Armour All-American game to be held at Towson University's Johnny Unitas Stadium on Saturday at 5:30 p.m. The annual game showcases some of the top high school seniors in the nation. Four student-athletes will represent the South and one will play for the North.
Barb Black (Ruxton, Md./St. Paul's School for Girls) leads off the four student-athletes played for the South Squad in the Under Armour All-American Game. The goalkeeper was her team's MVP as a senior in both field hockey and lacrosse at St. Paul's School for Girls. Black was on the Tewaaraton Watch list 2009 and 2010 while earning All-Baltimore County as a junior. She was also a member of the honor roll.
MJ Coyle (Kensington, Md./Holy Child) is a local defender who played lacrosse and field hockey in high school. Aside from being an Under Armour All-American, she was a member of the Tewaraaton Watch List as a senior. Coyle is a three-time All-ISL honoree and was Honorable Mention All-America as a junior when her high school squad won the ISL Championship. She played club with Capital Lcrosse for three years and was a member of the National Honor Society as well as the president of Students Against Drunk Driving.
Hannah Franklin (Phoenix, Md./McDonogh) is another local product who exceled on the attack at McDonogh High School. Besides her spot on the Under Armour All-America squad, she was First Team ESPN Rise and an Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland All-Star. With undefeated McDonogh High School Franklin was named first team by The Baltimore Sun as a senior and was the leading scorer with 51 goals and 17 assists. Franklin played club with TLC Lacrosse.
Mary Woodman (Alexandria, Va./St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School) is an attacker out of Alexandria, Va. She was a two-year letterwinner in high school and the Virginia Player of the Year as a senior. Woodman earned All-America as well as First Team All-Met, All-ISL and a spot on the Tewaaraton Watch List. St. Stephen's and St. Agnes School won three-consecutive state championships and 16-straight ISL championships. She played club with a number of Hoyas at Capital Lacrosse. Woodman was also a member of the field hockey squad and Lemonaide which was a group that raised money through lemonade stands to donate to various charities throughout the region.
Kelyn Freedman (Newtown Square, Pa./Radnor), a midfielder, is the lone Hoya to play on the North Squad in the Under Armour All-American game. Freedman was a three-sport athlete earning 12 varisty letters in lacrosse, basketball and cross country at Radnor High School as well as winning MVP as both a junior and senior on all three squads. Freedman earned Main Line Player of the Year, Phillylacrosse.com Player of the Year and DelCo Female Athlete of the Year in 2010. Her high school was a two-time state champion in lacrosse. Freedman was a member of the National Honor Society and played the oboe in the band.
Georgetown has the most recruits in the nation participating this weekend with five. In the BIG EAST, both Notre Dame and Syracuse have three recruits competing and Connecticut has one.
