Current, Former Georgetown Golfers Enjoying Summer Success

July 13, 2010

WASHINGTON - Former Georgetown University men's golfer Chris Lange (B'76) qualified for his fourth United States Senior Open at the Radnor Valley Country Club on June 24, 2010. This will be his third U.S. Senior Open in a row. The 31st United States Senior Open will take place from July 26 to August 1 at the Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Washington.

Lange finished third in the qualifier, shooting a 70. With three bogeys and three birdies, he finished even with par.

"I feel lucky getting in. I was in the middle of a long rain delay and a big storm came through. I didn't think we were going to go back out because trees were down and the wind was blowing pretty hard," said Lange. Play did continue and Lange managed to hit two birdies within the last five holes to grab the last qualifying spot.

Lange would like to capitalize on his fourth U.S. Senior Open appearance. "I haven't made the cut yet so it would nice to make it this time around," said Lange.

Rising senior Danny Hathway (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) won the Bethesda Country Club Title on July 4. This is Hathway's second Bethesda Country Club title, also winning it in 2008. Hathway was up by four with three holes left to play and beat Matt Sughrue in the 36 hole final.

Another rising senior, Brandon Ellis (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales), has been preparing for his senior year by playing in many tournaments this summer. He competed in the Eastern Amateur Championship at the Elizabeth Manor Golf & Country Club and finished in 66th of 174 with a 72-hole score of 6-over par 286.

Ellis has also been named one of the two captains of the men's golf team. Brandon Ellis hopes to build on his successful outing that helped secured the Big East Championship last season and continue with golf after he graduates. Rising junior Brian Dorfman (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) is competing in the Trans-Miss Championship at the Denver Country Club from July 13 to July 15.
