WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University women's basketball program held its annual girl's basketball camp this past week at McDonough Arena. Campers ages 8-18 learned skills and tactics through drills and scrimmages during the four-day camp.

70 campers arrive Monday and stayed through Thursday lodging in the Harbin dorms and eating at Leo's, the on-campus dining hall. During the week they were split into two groups, the NCAA and the WNBA, scrimmaging through the "regular season" and into the "playoffs". On the final day of camp, the staff held the championship game with Georgetown coached by Hoya senior Monica McNutt (Suitland, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross), winning the NCAA and the Mystics, coached by former manager Katherine DeStefano, winning the WNBA title.

McNutt and DeStefano were among the ten coaches on staff which included Hoyas Kenya Kirkland (Brooklyn, N.Y./Grand Street Campus) and Adria Crawford (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison), as well as Georgetown Head Coach Terri Williams-Flournoy.

Throughout the week, campers competed in skills competitions such as 1-on-1, 3-on-3, free throws, Hot Shot and Beat the Coach. On Tuesday, Williams-Flournoy as well as a number of current players arrived at camp to talk about balancing school and basketball. The coach spoke on the difficulties many players face when one takes a priority over the other and the players answered questions and signed autographs.

The 70 campers ranged in age and where they were from with a number of out-of-state participants and even campers from as far as England and Shanghai. During down time, participants went swimming and hung out in the dorms spending time with coaches and fellow campers.

All participants received a t-shirt, an evaluation by their coach, a certificate, a ticket deal from the Washington Wizards and the promise of a camp reunion this winter at a Georgetown women's basketball game.

The camp is held mid-way throught the summer every year, registration for 2011 will begin next spring.
