WASHINGTON - The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association has recognized 51 schools with Georgetown being one of 48 to earn Academic Squad honors for the 2010 season. The Hoyas were included after posting a team GPA of 3.084 which met the criteria of 3.0 or higher.
Georgetown was one of seven schools in the BIG EAST to receive recognition. The IWLCA also awarded three teams the distinction of Merit Squads. Hofstra University topped all schools in Division I for the 2010 season with a 3.492 GPA, while Stanford University (3.477) just edged Duke (3.471) to rank second. Of the 51 institutions, ten participated in the NCAA Championships, including runner-up Northwestern University and semifinalist Syracuse University.
Georgetown finished the season with a record of 13-6 and a perfect 8-0 mark in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas won the BIG EAST Regular Season Championship as well as the tournament title for the first time in program history. Georgetown earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament marking GU's 11th tournament bid in the past 12 seasons.
