WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University field hockey team (2-0) came out aggressive against the Red Flash of St. Francis (Pa.) (0-2) with a score by Annie Wilson (Darien, Conn /Darien) in the first ninety seconds of the game. The Hoyas went on to win 4-0 in the final game of the Georgetown Invitational at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex on Sunday morning.
Georgetown is 2-0 for the first time since 2000 when the Hoyas defeated Radford and Siena to start a season. Briana Pereira (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) had three saves for the Hoyas in the victory earning her first career shutout.
A cross from Kimberly Keating (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Merion Mercy Academy) set up Wilson with the first goal as the Hoyas would not look back.
Charlotte Tierney (Rye, N.Y./Holy Child) scored the first of her two unassisted goals in the second half. Tierney's first goal was tipped in in front of the cage. Within ten minutes, she added her second goal off a rebound.
Keating added the final goal off a penalty corner with assists from Annika Bannon (Hopkinton, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) and Sophia Pifer (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh).
Georgetown will face La Salle on Saturday Sept. 4 at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex on the campus of American University at 1 p.m. The Hoyas will also play Temple University on Sunday Sept. 5 at 1 p.m.
Notes: The Hoyas are off to its fastest start since 2000 when they won eight consecutive games to start the season...Former Hoya Hillary Polk-Williams scored three goals in the victory over Siena the last time they went 2-0 in 2000.
