Georgetown Softball Announces Incoming Class of Eight Players

WASHINGTON - Georgetown University Softball Head Coach Pat Conlan has announced the Hoyas Class of 2014, consisting of eight members, tied for the largest class in the six year history of the program. Joining the Hoyas softball program for its third season in the BIG EAST will be Alexandria Anttila (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community), Madeline Giaquinto (Falls Church, Va./Bishop O'Connell), Elyse Graziano (Floral Park, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy), Taylor Koenig (Akron, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit), Rachel Nersesian (San Leandro, Calif./Bishop O'Dowd), Blair Sirockman (Flemington, N.J./The Hun School), Hannah Slovacek (Austin,Texas/Westlake) and Jenna Stark (Huntington Beach, Calif./Orange Lutheran).

Conlan, the only head coach the Georgetown softball program has ever known, begins her sixth season on the Hilltop when the Hoyas begin its fall schedule on Saturday with two games against George Washington University at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.

"I am excited to welcome the Class of 2014 to the Hilltop," Conlan said."We have worked hard during the first five years of the program to build a solid foundation. I believe we have accomplished that goal and with this recruiting class brings a new mission. These eight freshmen have the ability and attitude to take us to the next level. We have a outstanding group of young women in this class and I look forward to seeing their growth over the next four years."

20 Madeleine Giaquinto Fr. | 1B Falls Church, Va. | Bishop O'Connell

High School - Earned four varsity letters in softball and two varsity letters in cross country. Giaquinto was selected All-WCAC for four seasons and won the 2009 Coach's Award...She batted .395 and her fielding percentage was .989 in 28 games her senior year. Led her team to the league championship four times.She was on the Academic Honor Roll for all four years and a member of the National Honor Society.

7 Taylor Koenig Fr. | CF/2B Akron, Ohio | Walsh Jesuit

High School - Earned four varsity letters in softball and three varsity letters in cross country, serving as team captain in softball for two years and in cross country for one year. Koenig won the Walsh Jesuit High School Athlete of the Year, Wendy's High School Heisman Award, OHSAA Scholar Athlete Award, and Akron Beacon Journal Scholar Athlete. She was on the High Honor Roll every semester; she won the Top 3 GPA Award, Rensslaer Medal for Math and Science, Yale Book Award, Akron Council of Engineering & Scientific Society's Outstanding Student Award, Outstanding Senior Award, and Akron Beacon Journal Gold Star Student.

18 Jenna Stark Fr. | 3B/2B Huntington Beach, Calif. | Orange Lutheran

High School - Captained her high school team for one year. She was named first team all-league three years and Adidas Top 100 Recruit two years. She helped her team reach the quarterfinals of the CIF Division I playoffs. She was a National Honor Society member.

12 Alexandria Anttila Fr. | SS/2B/OF Antioch, Ill. | Antioch Community

High School - Earned four varsity letters in softball and three varsity letters in basketball, serving as team captain in both softball and basketball for two years. Anttila was named Daily Herald First Team second baseman (2008) and shortstop (2009, 2010), all-conference second baseman (2008) and shortstop (2009, 2010), all-area second baseman (2008) and shortstop (2009, 2010), and all-state shortstop (2009, 2010). Her team won conference and regional championships twice, sectional championship once, and super-sectional championship once. She batted .443 in 122 at-bats her senior year. She graduated cum laude from high school and was a member of the National Honor Society and Spanish National Honor Society.

1 Rachel Nersesian Fr. | UT/P San Leandro, Calif. | Bishop O'Dowd

High School - Served as co-captain of her high school softball team for two years...Nersesian was named 2009 Hayward Area Athletic League (HAAL) Pitcher of the Year and 2010 HAAL Player of the Year, Cal-Hi Sports NCS 2010 Softball Player of the Year, 2010 First Team All-East Bay, 2010 California All-State First Team Medium Schools, and 3-time First Team all-league...Her team won North Coast Section Division III Championship twice, Batted .431, had 1.45 ERA with 463 K during four years. She was a National Merit Commended Student, a winner of Nelson F. Peterson/National Merit Special Scholarship, and a member of the National Honor Society.

3 Elyse Graziano Fr. | INF/OF Floral Park, N.Y. | Sacred Heart Academy

High School - Earned seven varsity letters combined for softball, basketball, and soccer, serving as captain of her high school softball team for two years...Graziano was named all-league three times, won 2010 MSG Varsity Scholarship and Wendy's High School Heisman Award, her team won league and state championships in 2009. She was president of her school chapter of the National Honor Society.

14 Hannah Slovacek Fr. | P Austin, Texas | Westlake High School

High School - Earned four varsity letters, serving as captain of her high school softball team for two years. Slovacek was named First-Team All-District 25-5A three times and Second-Team once, Athlete of the Week in Westlake Picayune, All-Decade team in Westlake Picayune, won district Pitcher of the Year three times and Newcomer of the Year, and was the starting pitcher of the 2010 Central Texas All-Star Game. She was named Academic All-District three times and was a member of the National Honor Society.

24 Blair Sirockman Fr. | P Flemington, N.J. | The Hun School of Princeton

High School - Earned three varsity letters in softball and four varsity letters in swimming, serving as captain of both teams during her senior year. Named first team all prep during her junior and senior year and was first team All West Jersey...Helped lead her softball team to the MAPLS Championship.
