The Georgetown University field hockey team (5-5, 0-1 BIG EAST) will take on BIG EAST opponent Rutgers (3-7, 0-1 BIG EAST) on Friday at noon and Richmond (3-7) on Sunday at noon. Both games will be played at the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex on the campus of American University. Live stats will be available for both of these games on www.guhoyas.com.
Georgetown played against Appalachian State and Davidson this past week. The Hoyas allowed six shots in the 1-0 loss against Appalachian State and lost to Davidson, 2-1 in penalty strokes. Sophomore Catherine Shugrue (Devon, Pa./Episcopal Academy) leads the Hoyas offense with eight goals and 20 points.
Sophomore Briana Pereira (Medford, N.J./Shawnee) has a goals against average of 1.97 and .727 save percentage. Pereira had a career-high 14 saves against Davidson last weekend, eclipsing the mark she set earlier this season when she had 12 against No. 12 Louisville.
Senior captain defender Annika Bannon (Hopkinton, Mass./Notre Dame Academy) made the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll this past week. This is her second time making the conference's honor roll this season.
RUTGERS: The Scarlet Knights opened the 2010 season with wins over Ohio, Villanova and West Chester, but fell to James Madison, William & Mary, Richmond, No. 14 American, No. 1 Maryland, No. 8 Syracuse and Monmouth. Nicole Gentile leads the Scarlet Knights with 10 points.
RICHMOND: The Spiders opened the 2010 season with wins over Towson,Monmouth and Rutgers, but fell to No. 14 American, VCU, No. 4 Princeton, James Madison, Ohio, Davidson and No. 14 Duke.
