The No. 23-ranked Georgetown University men's basketball team wraps up a two-game swing through the Garden State on Tuesday, Jan. 18, visiting long-time BIG EAST Conference rival Seton Hall. Tipoff at the Prudential Center is slated for 7 p.m.
The game will be shown live on MASN with Bob Picozzi and Jim Spanarkel calling all of the action. It can also be seen on SNY in New York, Brighthouse in Tampa-St. Petersburg, Time-Warner in Milwaukee, Cox in New Orleans, Providence and Green Bay. The Hoyas improved to 13-5 overall and 2-4 in the BIG EAST with a 74-65 win at Rutgers on Saturday. Georgetown is ranked No. 23 in the Associated Press Top 25 poll and No. 23 in the ESPN/USA Today Top 25 Coaches poll.
The game with Seton Hall on Tuesday will be the 93rd meeting all-time between the schools. Georgetown leads the head-to-head series, 53-39, and has won five of the last six games.
Senior guard Austin Freeman (Mitchellville, Md./DeMatha) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday after his performance in a pair of games last week. This is the third time this season that Freeman, the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, has been selected to the honor roll as he was recognized on Nov. 29 and Dec. 27. Freeman averaged 18.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists last week as the Hoyas split a pair of games, losing at home to No. 5 Pittsburgh before downing the Scarlet Knights.
On Saturday at Rutgers, Freeman scored a game-high 25 points, his 16th game in double figures this season and the eighth time he has scored at least 20 points. He connected on 6-of-12 shots from the field, 4-of-6 from three-point land and all nine of his free throw attempts for 25 points. Freeman also added a career-high nine rebounds and led the team with four assists. He scored 12 points and had two rebounds against Pittsburgh earlier in the week.
Junior guard Jason Clark (Arlington, Va./Bishop O'Connell) is second on the team in scoring with 13.0 points per game and third on the team with 4.1 rebounds per game. Clark is shooting 51.5 percent from the floor and 37.8 percent from three-point land. Senior guard Chris Wright (Bowie, Md./St. John's College H.S. [D.C.]) is third on the team in scoring with 12.7 points and leads the team with 5.50 assists per game, which ranks fourth in the BIG EAST and 30th in the country.
Senior forward Julian Vaughn (Reston, Va./Oak Hill Academy) is fourth on the team in scoring 8.6 points per game and leads the team, and ranks 17th in the league, with 6.5 rebounds per game. He is 12th in the BIG EAST in field goal percentage, connecting on 52.5 percent of his shots from the field. Vaughn also ranks sixth in the league with 2.12 blocks per game.
The trio of Hoya guards - Freeman, Wright and Clark - have combined to average 43.7 points per game and have accounted for 57.8 percent of the team's scoring (786 points of 1,361 total). Wright, who will play in his 100th career game on Tuesday night, and Freeman have combined to start 186 games. With Clark, who has started 52-straight games, the DC3 has combined for 238 starts.
Sophomore forward Hollis Thompson (Los Angeles, Calif./Loyola) is fifth on the team in scoring with 8.1 points and is second on the team with 4.6 rebounds per game. Thompson is 13th in the BIG EAST in three-point field goal percentage, connecting on 41.3 percent of his shots.
