The Georgetown University field hockey team (2-9) stumbled against Monmouth (8-4) by a score of 5-1 in West Long Branch, N.J. on Sunday, October 2. Catherine Shugrue (Devon, Pa./Episcopal Academy) came out ready to score, tallying her fifth goal of the season.
Shugrue scored just 27 seconds into the first half, striking an unassisted shot from the middle of the circle. Shugrue leads the Hoyas in goals with five and points with 12.
The Hoyas held strong to their 1-0 lead, following a heartbreaking loss against BIG EAST opponent Rutgers on Friday afternoon. Monmouth was unable to convert until nine minutes had ticked by in the first half.
Georgetown registered one of its best shooting percentages of the season. The Hoyas put 87% of their shots on goal in the match. Annie Wilson (Darien, Conn./Darien) now has a shot-on-goal percentage of 85% over eleven games.
The Georgetown field hockey team returns home to the William I. Jacobs Recreational Complex at American University on Friday, October 2 for a BIG EAST contest against Connecticut (9-1, 3-0 BIG EAST).
