WASHINGTON - The No. 13 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad (0-3) will face the Johns Hopkins University Blue Jays in a Wednesday evening matchup. This contest kicks off a two-game road campaign as the Blue & Gray travel to No. 5 North Carolina on Saturday. Wednesday's game will be televised live on ESPNU.
The Hoyas faltered on Saturday at home against No. 3 Duke, 13-5. Kelsi Bozel (Hunt Valley, Md./Notre Dame Prep) scored two goals, while Sophia Thomas (Lutherville, Md./Maryvale Prep), Dina Jackson (Potomac, Md./Bullis) and Rosie Corcoran (Point Lookout, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) all also added goals, but it was not enough to overcome the Blue Devils, who were led by Kat Thomas and Emma Hamm, who had four and three goals each, respectively.
Georgetown's offense is led by Kirr, who has nine points on three goals and six assists this season. Bozel and Thomas each have five goals to lead the team in that category. Bozel leads the team in draw controls with nine, while Thomas is first on the squad with six ground balls.
Johns Hopkins is 4-1 this season and 2-0 at home. The Blue Jays' lone loss came against their only ranked opponent so far, No. 17 Princeton. Colleen McCaffrey and Candace Rossi lead their offense with 13 and 10 goals each. In Wednesday's 10-1 win over Towson, McCaffrey scored a hat trick, while Brooke Foussadier and Taylor D'Amore each recorded two goals and an assist.
Georgetown is 6-6 all-time against the Blue Jays. Last year, the Hoyas won at home, 15-9, behind six goals and an assist by Molly Ford and a hat trick and two assists by Ashby Kaestner. The Hoyas are 3-3 all-time against the Blue Jays on the road. The opening draw is scheduled for 6 p.m., at Homewood Field in Baltimore, Md. The game will be televised on ESPNU, and live stats will be available at www.GUHoyas.com.
