WASHINGTON - Three Hoyas had two hits apiece and the top of the lineup drove in all four of GU's runs, but the Georgetown University softball team lost a 9-4 decision at Towson on Tuesday afternoon.
Shikara Lowe (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit), Jenna Stark (Huntington Beach, Calif./Orange Lutheran) and Kristi Preuss (LaPlata, Md./LaPlata) led the offensive attack in the hits column while Mackensey Carter (Mission Viejo, Calif./Mission Viejo), Alexandria Anttila (Antioch, Ill./Antioch Community) and Lowe - the top three batters in Georgetown's lineup - drove in all four runs, but the Hoyas didn't push anyone across home plate until the fourth inning as their comeback bid fell a bit short.
Towson scored three runs in the first inning to jump out to an early lead and that 3-0 score would hold until the fourth. In that frame, Anttila reached base on a one-out single and advanced to second when the right fielder misplayed the ball. Lowe singled up the middle in the next at bat to score Anttila and put the Hoyas on the board.
Any effort to get the Blue & Gray back into the game was stymied when Towson scored two runs in each of the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Georgetown added a run in the fifth when Preuss doubled to right field and was driven home when Carter reached base on an error by the Tigers' third baseman.
The Hoyas added two more runs in the seventh on a pair of RBI by Anttila and Lowe to make the final score 9-4.
The loss drops Georgetown's record to 7-25 on the season.
GU will play a doubleheader tomorrow against George Mason in Fairfax, Va. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 4 p.m.
