WASHINGTON - The Georgetown University men's golf team plays its third event of the spring season this weekend when the Hoyas travel to the City of Brotherly Love to compete in the Villanova Invitational.
The tournament will be played at the White Manor Country Club on Sunday, April 3 and Monday, April 4 in Villanova, Pa.
In addition to host Villanova, the other 19 participating teams are Binghamton, Central Connecticut State, Delaware, Drexel, Fairleigh Dickinson, Georgetown, Hartford, Hofstra, Long Island, Penn State-Abington, Rider, Sacred Heart, St. Joseph's, St. Peter's, Siena, Temple, Towson, Villanova, Wagner, and Youngstown State.
The first round will get under way at noon on Sunday. Hopefully the weather will cooperate for both days.
The Hoyas are coming off a fourth place finish at the Fireline Towson Invitational last weekend, the team's best finish since the first tournament of the year in September. GU posted a 54-hole score of 53-over par 917.
Georgetown has competed in seven tournaments this year, with four top-five finishes as a team.
Junior Brian Dorfman (Greenwood Village, Colo./Cherry Creek) tied for 14th place at 10-over par 226, while junior Taylor Hall (Roswell, Ga./Trinity) finished in second place at 13-over par 229.
Senior co-captain Brandon Ellis (Westerville, Ohio/St. Francis de Sales), sophomore Curtis Loop (New Canaan, Conn./New Canaan/California) and senior Danny Hathway (Rockville, Md./Georgetown Prep) each posted scores of 17-over par 233 and tied for 32nd place last weekend.
Loop leads the team in stroke average at 73.37 this season through 19 rounds. He has posted two top-five finishes and three top-20 finishes. His best finish this season was a tied for second place at the Renaissance Invitational, while he also tied for fourth place at the Gridiron Classic.
Dorfman's 14th place finish was his third among the top-20 this year and he is second on the team with a 74.63 stroke average.
Hall is third on the team with a 75.17 stroke average in 17 rounds, with two top-20 showings, including one among the top-10. Ellis, meanwhile, has two top-20 finishes and is fourth on the team with a 75.26 stroke average.
